5 reasons why you need to watch True Detective

I'm pretty sure most of you have already heard about this show called True Detective and many of you have already watched the whole season. But there are still some of you who are still hesitant to begin watching it.

Like we did with our Hannibal post, we aim to help push you into the right direction, which is to watch True Detective.

Created by Nic Pizzolatto and starring fresh Academy Award winner Matthew McConaughey and Woody "drunk guy from the Hunger Games" Woody Harrelson, True Detective is basically about the lives of two detectives, Rust Cohle and Martin Hart, and how they needed to solve messed up murder crimes that took them 17 years to solve.

If that paragraph doesn't already fuel your jet engine to take you to France, read on for more reasons to work your appetite up a little.

1. 1995 Rust Cohle.

Alright Alright Alright

You still think that actor Matthew McConaughey is a little out of this world, from his infamous string of romantic comedies to him literally thanking himself at the 2014 Oscars when he received his award for Best Actor, but this won't let anything stop you from having a deep appreciation for Detective Rust Cohle in 1995.

You won't be able to prepare yourself from having a soft spot/hard on for McConaughey's character, especially when the story takes you back to 1995. It is arguably the best time for appreciating him, in character and aesthetically.

Can you handle both the hair flip AND the shirt lift? Can you?

But mostly aesthetically.

Cohle might be rough around the edges, but his cool, sweet and sour personality will also win your heart. And having great character in a show you want to watch does not hurt one bit.

2. Cary Fukunaga

Okay here's why I'm extra excited talking about Cary Fukunaga. There are two major things about him that are extraordinary and should be a great reason for watching this particular show.

His 2009 film Jane Eyre (which was also one of his first major projects), based on the classic novel by Charlotte Bronte, starred Mia Wasikowska and Michael Fassbender and it was critically praised for his cinematography and aesthetically pleasing way of directing shots that equaled his own vision.

What I love about film directors taking on television is that they don't compromise their directing style in any way, making each episode in the show look like a film they would do, like Fincher with House of Cards. Fukunaga's True Detective definitely proves this observation.

The second thing about Fukunaga is how he looks like this:

Even his long haired beardy hobo state is pretty great.

3. The crime scenes.

Each scene gives off a creepy, dark, mysterious vibe and they will undoubtedly leave you feeling a little empty and morose on the inside. It's a good thing, don't worry.

4. It can also be hilariously iconic.

Great shows have great iconic moments and props so that viewers can buy things that relate to the show and feel like they own a piece of it, like the Big Hug Mug that Rust uses or the beer can men he made.

There were also equally iconic moments in scripts that involved a lot of 'philosophical' views.

...mostly from Rust Cohle.

And Woody Harrelson's Marty Hart usually calls him out.

But mostly, the icon of the entire show is Rust.

5. That 6 minute shot.

Shooting a six minute shot with no cuts or edits is a fantastic feat on its own. The entire view was spectacular and heart pounding and fast paced and dramatic and violent and smart and everything you could dream about in a television show.

You can watch the scene below, and it also won't really give anything away so you can still safely watch it. However, watching the entire show will piece things together.

There were actually more reasons we wanted tot fit into this article, like how great the storyline was and how it also had HBO approved boobs, as well as how it makes you want to help guess who the culprit is the entire show, and how when you do find out it will just get more intense from there.

We're also excited for Season 2, which they had already announced. Sadly, McConaughey and Harrelson won't be the featured star detectives anymore.

But rumour has it, Brad Pitt might join the second season instead!

5 better actresses for Tiger Lily, who aren't Rooney Mara

Joe Wright's new "Pan" film project, which is his version of J. M. Barrie's classic "Peter Pan", has gotten a lot of media attention and angry fans lately due to the latest casting choice.

Rooney Mara is in final negotiations for the role of Tiger Lily.

As great of an actress, and as beautiful Mara is, we still can't get over the fact that they chose a white actress to play a Native American role, a role which is already scarce to find as it is for a real Native American actress.

The worst part is that we can't even say that they tried looking for a Native, as Prospector Films tweeted a response saying that, "(Native American actress) Kawennahere Devery Jacobs auditioned auditioned for the role but was told that they were looking for a Caucasian instead."

We love Rooney, and we're really excited for the film but this decision made by them was terribly irresponsible. So if they do decide to pick someone else, we at Bubblebeam Mag are proud to present these Native American actresses that could rock the part as well as Rooney could!

Devery Jacobs

She auditioned for the role and they turned her down because she was Native American? The 20 year old actress has been turning heads since she had been nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role for her portrayal of Aila in Rhymes for Young Ghouls, at the Canadian Screen Awards. Plus, she's breathtakingly gorgeous. How could they have turned her down?

Q'orianka Kilcher

Q'orianka had already took the world by storm with her role as Pocahontas in Terrence Malick's "A New World" epic when she was just 14 years old! Now that she's 24, she could fit in the role as well as Rooney in terms of age, and she has the terrific acting chops to boot. A bonus fact about her is that she's a great environmental and human rights activist.

Julia Jones

The English, Native American (Choctaw and Chickasaw) and African-American actress has starred in the Twilight movies and ER, and has since than gained the adoration and a following worldwide. Twilight does that to people.

Vanessa Hudgens

She might only be a quarter Native American, but she can still look the part of Tiger Lily. She also has a massive fan following from her High School Musical days and she's not been stopping since with film projects like Spring Break and Machete Kills. Having her on board would also attract a lot more people to watch the film.

Ashley Callingbull

The Canadian actress even starred in Blackstone, an unmuted exploration of community, power and politics on a First Nation reserve. So she definitely fits the part. She's also a model, a prize winning beauty queen and an international motivational speaker for TED talks and Harvard. What more could you possibly want?

There are also probably more actresses that are of Native American descent who are out there and who are just waiting for a huge Native American role like Tiger Lily in Pan to come one in a blue moon, but the role would only be given to Caucasians.

Lots of other roles that were meant for other races, like olive skinned Katniss Everdeen of The Hunger Games, ended up being a role for Jennifer Lawrence.

The issue of given roles of other races to white actors is a big one, and it is something that needs to stop at some point, because actors of different races can do just as good of a job as Caucasians, and they can sell tickets (look at Pacific Rim!), we just need to be given the chance.

Top 5 reasons why you should be watching Hannibal

That's not beef.

The name "Hannibal" has always been in people's mouths because of the famous novels by Thomas Harris and later because of the films like "Silence of the Lambs" starring Anthony Hopkins and Jodie Foster.

But since last year, the smart, cannibalistic psychopath has been reworked into a brilliant television show, along with the original characters from before he was caught, based on the book "Red Dragon", which was also made into a popular movie starring Hopkins, Ralph Fiennes and Edward Norton.

"Hannibal" has now started Season 2 of the series, which follows the introduction of Mads Mikkelsen's take on Hannibal himself, along with Hugh Dancy's take on Will Graham. But now we list down the top 5 reasons on why you should be gluing your eyes on the screen to watch the new season of "Hannibal".

1. Will Graham is in prison, and he's planning to get out.

The television series takes a different twist in "Hannibal", with the cannibal psychiatrist framing his only 'friend' and consulting FBI investigator for all the murders Lecter was responsible for. Season 1's second half of the show was brilliant and evil and conniving, and it broke our hearts.

But season 2 sees a different side of Graham, and he's going to work his way into setting himself free and proving to everyone else that Lecter is the man they're looking for, which would the beginning of "Red Dragon".

2. Food, glorious food.

Arguably, besides the storyline, the best part of "Hannibal" is the food styling of Dr. Lecter's masterpiece dishes.

Even with knowing that everything he made has human meat in it, and his character even serving the dishes to other people who unknowingly chewed on human as well, we still couldn't help but to gaze at the beauty of the food. It will also make you question yourself from time to time.

Jose Andres, a Spanish American chef, had been hired to be the 'culinary cannibal consultant' for the show, to advise the crew on proper procedure for preparing human flesh for consumption.

3. Bryan Fuller.

Fuller, with Mads Mikkelsen as the creepy Wendigo and Hugh Dancy.

"Hannibal" creator Bryan Fuller is probably insane, and we all should love him to bits. His passion for "Hannibal", the show and his adoration for his fans are admirable and sweet and over the top with his incredible livetweets whenever a new episode is first shown, packed with extra behind the scenes pictures, information and love.

Fuller even appreciates whatever fans have come up with for the show, like wearing flower rings on his head when he's seen pictures of "Hannibal" characters drawn with them on.

He's also created other great shows like "Wonderfalls", "Dead Like Me" and "Pushing Daisies" with Lee Pace, which were all unfortunately short lived.

4. It can be creepy, gross and scary.

The visuals can be hard on the eyes sometimes, especially the brutally beautiful death and crime scenes. From ripping the back skin of people to create wings, to the simple horror of a situation, some images will stick at the back of your mind, and it is promised to get a bit more intense in the second season, and we love it.

5. The cast and characters.

From the outstandingly evil portrayal of Hannibal by Mads Mikkelsen, the go-to-guy for romantic comedy male leads Hugh Dancy as troubled FBI investigator Hugh Dancy, to every single one in the show, the characters and the cast portraying them are addictive and lovable, despite the dark and gory story.

We're also excited for the Season 2 new additions to the cast, including "Sex and the City" star Cynthia Nixon as Office investigator Prurnell and Michael Pitt as Mason Verger. Fuller was also keen to take in David Bowie for a role in the show, so he might show up in future seasons.
